Quinebaug Valley Emergency Communications, Inc. (QV) is a non-profit corporation that was founded in 1974, to establish and administer an improved emergency notification and dispatch system in Northeastern Connecticut. We receive
911 emergency calls, dispatch the appropriate agency (fire or ambulance organization), transfer calls to State and local police departments, and provide continuous radio communications throughout our 17 town area.

The QV dispatch area: 519 square
miles , over 100,000 permanent residents and contains 34
fire departments, 14 ambulance agencies, 2 municipal police
departments and 2 State Police agencies.

In large measure, our responsibility is the management of communication. Our new location at 1249 Hartford Pike in East Killingly is one of the most state-of-the-art facilities of its kind in Connecticut. We moved here in March of 2012 after over 30 years at the State Police Troop ā€˜Dā€™ Barracks

Funding

In 1997, the State of Connecticut introduced
an E-911 surcharge onto each phone bill. This money is used
to fund 911 answering points such as QV. We also receive funding from the municipalities that we serve. We have been able to operate with minimal increases in funding from our towns. We continue to be the most cost efficient dispatch center in the state.
