11/5 - Local youths/QV Dispatchers receive awards

On Oct. 30th, 9-1-1 for Kids (www.911forkids.com) presented Hero Awards during the APCO-Atlantic Chapter Conference at the Mystic Marriott in Groton.
Eight year old Jessica McElroy of Plainfield called 911 when her father injured himself on his lawnmower resulting in partial amputation of his toes.
James Smith, 8 of Griswold, called 911 when his fathers motorcycle caught fire on the deck of their home.
Both children received a framed certificate from 9-1-1 for Kids, a congratulatory letter from Governor Rell, a citation from the CT General Assembly and US Savings Bonds.
The dispatchers who handled these calls also received commendations, Jason Bousquet and Deanna DonFrancisco.

The ceremony received both local and national attention.
